Some of you might know what Emergenza is
all about, some of you might not. And for those who don’t, here is what
it’s all about:

It is a musical marathon for newcomer bands that encompasses some of the most
prestigious international stages. It takes place in many major European cities
as well as in North America. From January to June, the bands participate in
a knockout contest, progressing from heat to heat. At the end of each of the
concerts, the audience votes for their favorite band of the evening. The band
picked by the public then moves forward to the next stage of the Festival. The
goal is to reach the International Final. The winners of this International
Final then have the opportunity to perform a live showcase in the USA.

Tonight, at Nachtleben Frankfurt, eight bands had the chance to show the audience
that they rock and get their votes to reach the next round. The four with the
most votes would get the chance to play at the Semifinal in the Batschkapp in
Frankfurt.

The Nachtleben was quite full, each band seemed to have brought their friends,
fans and family.

The first band was Ganefsbande, a band sounding like polka, really funky and
different. Ganefsbande consisted of a stand-up bass, a keyboard, an acoustic
guitar and drums. A rare style of music, but quite nice.

After them the boys of Dammit! from Aschaffenburg were up, a quite young punk / alternative band. They sounded a little bit like Blink182, Good Charlotte and bands like
that. The cover song they played was “When your heart stops beating”
by +44. They were good but unfortunately didn’t get enough votes to enter
the next round.

Better Beware was much harsher. A quite heavy tattooed hardcore band, at least
compared to the other bands tonight, with a loud vocalist and fast ass kicking
songs. A great band and great guys!!! The audience seemed to like them as well,
they even tried to get a mosh pit going twice but that didn’t work out
that well. This band made it to the next round.

Degeulasse didn’t only have a weird name but also were somewhat weird. They
came on stage in lab gown and sang psychedelic grunge-like music á la
Nirvana. Degeulasse were also quite young and it seemed like they brought along
their school mates and parents. They had a huge support in the audience. For
the last song they got a guy on stage with a Chinese instrument whitch was violin-like.
Very interesting instrument with a great sound, really impressive.

Resolved from Friedberg, was fronted by a female vocalist. She had a pretty
voice but not much performance and charisma, but maybe that was only because
she was nervous. The keyboarder was rocking behind the keys and sang the backing
vocals. They played some pop rock alternative music, great songs and the audience
loved them.

Another female fronted band and back on stage after 15 years was Life Unlimited.
This woman could definitely rock. She had this smoky voice and knew how to rock
the stage. The audience loved her and gave her big support. They had great songs
and sounded like 80s rock, and somehow seemed quite professional on stage.

Against Conformity was a metal band with the typical long hair, doing the windmill
and getting the audience to do so too. The singer, who had dread locks, sang
a couple of songs in Italian.

Last band was Genetic Vortex, an electro project. They were nice and made the
audience, which was getting less and less, dance a lot. Besides the Apple computer
the trio also had two guitars, although one of them did not play guitar the
entire time. The music reminded of Silence and Phillip Boa and The Voodooclub.
The evening was quite mixed genre-wise and it was fun seeing all these totally
unknown bands playing a more or less 30 minutes set of mostly own songs. (You
were allowed to cover one song per set.)

And here are the winners: 1. Resolved
2. Degeulasse
3. Better Beware
4.
