Asrai is one of the few gothic bands from the Netherlands with quite a history.
\nThey formed back in 1985 and in 1988 they changed their name from \u201cTwins
\nno Twins\u201d in Asrai. At that time Asrai already had a dark melancholic side
\nwhich is still present on stage today. One of the things that makes this band
\nstand out compared to other gothic bands is their style. And I mean their personal\u00a0style. The sisters Karin and Margriet have their own way, as well as Rik, their\u00a0guitarist. And I think that that also adds something to the originality of their\u00a0music. They are like this, they did not put on a gothic dress, only for their stage act.<\/p>\n

Although the band has been around for over twelve years they have only
\n\u00a0 recently\u00a0released their third CD, and of course they played some tracks from the new
\n\u00a0 album. You could have told me that all the songs were from the last one and
\n\u00a0 I would have believed it. I have listened to their albums before but never liked
\n\u00a0 it, though some friends were going and I thought maybe I should give the band
\n\u00a0 a chance. I am glad I went that Sunday evening. They played in the little hall
\n\u00a0 and considering it was a Sunday there was a nice crowd.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Asrai like to call their own music, hot-blooded rock. I have not seen the blooded
\n\u00a0 rock, but I clearly have seen the intense power they have on stage. Not only
\n\u00a0 Margriet the singer but also other band members gave their all. It is quite
\n\u00a0 powerful but at the same time there was this friendly vibe amongst people in
\n\u00a0 the audience but the friendly vibe also came from the band. The interaction
\n\u00a0 with the audience was very nice and they even joked a bit.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 As I said I did not really like their CD’s but they have changed my perspective.
\n\u00a0 I do like Asrai; They were very good. They take you into their deep emotions
\n\u00a0 and this dark melancholic gothic atmosphere alternated with good metal. I got
\n\u00a0 carried away by their lyrics and performance. Magriet is a great singer and
\n\u00a0 even Manon showed she can sing. Was nice to see her on stage because together
\n\u00a0 with Karin, she was a bit hidden in the dark back of the stage. All in all a
\n\u00a0 very good live band, and if you have the chance go see them live.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
