\n\u00a0 Rules of Engagement comes from Kristiansand, Norway. The band plays melodic-metal.
\n\u00a0 Because Rules of Engagement is coming to the Netherlands in December to play
\n\u00a0 some gigs, I though it was time to ask the band some questions by email and
\n\u00a0 Bob M\u00f8rk was kind enough to answer them. <\/p>\n

– How did the band get started?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“The band was formed by Kim Arly Karlsen and former drummer Thomas F\u00e6r\u00f8vig in 2006, both tired of non-serious bands. They wanted a band on their own terms. Short time after, Jarl and Bob joined in. Kjell is the newest addition to RoE,
\nand we are close to be a complete band. Time will show if our session-drummer \u00d8yvind will join the band permanently, we sure hope so.”<\/p>\n

– How would you describe your band for potential fans?<\/strong>\ufffd
\n\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Melodic, different, hard metal known for clean vocals, riffs and\u00a0well-timed breaks”<\/p>\n

– And how would you describe your band if you had only 3 words?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Personal, unique and dedicated”<\/p>\n

– What makes Rules of Engagement unique compared to other bands?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“The different background and influences of the band members. The sound is a
\n\u00a0 mix of hard head banging riffs wrapped in melodic themes.”<\/p>\n

– There is much competition in Norway, is this a struggle to survive or does
\n\u00a0 it stimulate you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0Bob:<\/strong>” We have come a long way with hard work and dedication, and we think that’s the
\n\u00a0 recipe for success. We work harder than most bands to develop and move forward,
\n\u00a0 and the harder others may work, the harder do we. ”<\/p>\n

– Are there other bands that influence the style of Rules of Engagement?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Threat Signal and Meshuggah are big inspirations, along with Anathema, Tool
\n\u00a0 and others.”<\/p>\n

– Where do you get inspiration from when writing songs? <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Memories, stuff that happens along the way, the need to express a certain
\n\u00a0 feeling.”<\/p>\n

– You are busy recording an EP right now, any expectations from yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“We want to make the best of the time we’ve got and to reach the full
\n\u00a0 potential of songs and band members.”<\/p>\n

– How is the recording progress going? <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“It is going great. The producer has introduced new ideas and “things”,
\n\u00a0 which makes the songs even better. It’s gonna be a kickass EP! ”<\/p>\n

– Has your stage act\/performance developed over time? <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“We always try our best to improve ourselves, and we’ll continue to grow
\n\u00a0 on stage with every new gig. As said earlier, we have different
\n\u00a0 backgrounds, and that will result in a slightly different stage act over
\n\u00a0 time. Due to the short time we’ve played together, we got a lot to learn.
\n\u00a0 But we all have this hunger for learning and improvement…”<\/p>\n

– You have been on stage with Stonegard and Backyard Babies, did you learn
\n\u00a0 anything from them?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“We played at the same festival, and Stonegard proved how hard
\n\u00a0 work, dedication and professionalism leads to successful gigs”<\/p>\n

– Do you have some funny backstage stories to share with us?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Either the backstage is too small, or we get too drunk to remember…”<\/p>\n

– Do you have any upcoming plans for touring?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“The Netherlands is next! We are also planning a Norwegian
\n\u00a0 tour this summer and some gigs in Europe next autumn.”<\/p>\n

– Do you have plans for releasing a video?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“We are currently working on an idea on a music video from one of our songs “Out
\n\u00a0 of Time”, most likely it will be released in Norway around springtime.”<\/p>\n

– Where would you like to see your band in the future? Any dreams? <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“On the road around the world, playing on the biggest venues and use
\n\u00a0 Meshuggah as support!”<\/p>\n

– Do you see yourself playing stadium gigs, like Metallica does?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Eventually, if the band is evolving in the same rate as now, it may be a
\n\u00a0 reality one day.”<\/p>\n

– When is Rules of Engagement satisfied?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“Hard to say, there will always be something to improve and work towards.
\n\u00a0 Some settle for this, and some are never satisfied. We want to reach
\n\u00a0 beyond our hopes and dreams, but then there is this thing called reality..”<\/p>\n

– What effect do you think that new media like internet, MySpace and forums\u00a0have on the fame of Rules of Engagement?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 Bob:<\/strong>“It’s a great opportunity for every upcoming band to get their music out to
\n\u00a0 the public and it’s free PR. For us it has been an accelerator for the
\n\u00a0 band, really helping us getting a name and then also gigs.”<\/p>\n
