\u00a0 Insomnium had the task to open this evening, there were many people to see these
\n\u00a0 bands and the vibe in the venue was good. Insomnium is a Finnish band, just
\n\u00a0 like the other two bands that evening and it promised to become a Finnish metal
\n\u00a0 party. Insomnium succeeded in getting the audience going and make them ready
\n\u00a0 for the other two bands. Insomnium has a nice power in their songs, a great
\n\u00a0 combination of both Swallow the Sun and Amorphis mixed together. Quite some
\n\u00a0 people where throwing their arms in the air and were singing along. They only
\n\u00a0 played thirty minutes, that was maybe a little to short, but they did leave
\n\u00a0 a good impression.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 The second band to enter the stage was Swallow the Sun. I think this band did
\n\u00a0 not get that much recognition. The audience was a bit dull just watching what
\n\u00a0 was happening not sure if they would like it. For me this was different, I knew
\n\u00a0 Swallow the Sun and quite enjoyed the gig. Although Swallow the Sun had played
\n\u00a0 in the area before, they seemed quite new to many people. Their music is a bit
\n\u00a0 heavier and more growling and grunting instead of clean vocals. Both Insomnium
\n\u00a0 and Amorphis have a different approach to melodic metal. Swallow the Sun has
\n\u00a0 those melodic parts for sure but maybe packed in more heavier metal. The song
\n\u00a0 \u201cSwallow\u201d is one of my favourites and they played this song at the
\n\u00a0 end, here you can clearly hear that they also have great melodic parts. I love
\n\u00a0 the drums from Pasi Pasanen, they sometimes sound a bit chaotic. I mean that
\n\u00a0 a lot is happening on that drum kit but it fits the music and, accompanying
\n\u00a0 with the melodic parts it is the strength of this band.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Finally, for some people in the crowd, it was time for Amorphis. The musicians
\n\u00a0 took their places, started to play and got applause, but when Tomi joined them,
\n\u00a0 arms wherewere in the air all over and it was clear that this was what the people
\n\u00a0 came for. They started of with \u201cI of Crimson Blood\u201d from the new album
\n\u00a0 Silent Waters and you could see many people sing along, and it did not stop
\n\u00a0 there. They played a high amount of older songs, which the audience seemed to
\n\u00a0 appreciate. Such as: \u201cSign from the North Side\u201d and \u201cMy Kantele\u201d.
\n\u00a0 Tomi Joutsen proved once again that he can also sing the earlier songs of Amorphis,
\n\u00a0 from before he joined the band. What was really great was that Mikko Kotam\u00e4ki,
\n\u00a0 from Swallow the Sun joined for one song, and this was just some pure power
\n\u00a0 on stage. Two guys growling from their little toes. Just one word: Amazing.
\n\u00a0 Yeah definitely one of the highlights of this evening.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 They really got the crowd going and cheering for them and Tomi Joutsen knows
\n\u00a0 how to get them to do anything he asks, like screaming or throwing arms in the
\n\u00a0 air. The audience really seemed to enjoy this gig as much as I did and not only
\n\u00a0 us but also the band seemed the enjoy it. Big grins on their face, especially
\n\u00a0 Santeri, the keyboard player who was a little hidden in the dark but you could
\n\u00a0 see his smiling face all the time. It is really hard to say which songs I like
\n\u00a0 best this evening, I have my favourites like \u201cAgainst Widows\u201d and
\n\u00a0 \u201cAlone\u201d which they both played but other songs were just as great
\n\u00a0 and the encore was brilliant. Three great songs of Amorphis history, the perfect
\n\u00a0 way to end their show. They really pleased me this evening with so many different
\n\u00a0 songs from different albums.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Amorphis is really a band that knows the right balance between melodies and
\n\u00a0 metal interwoven with beautifully written lyrics with a great stage act. It
\n\u00a0 is fascinating to look at Tomi’s dreads while he is head banging but also Tomi
\n\u00a0 Holopainen, Esa and Niclas are moving around on stage, building a little party.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
