\u00a0 After five records and ten years of excistense Captain Poon’s (vocals, guitar)
\n\u00a0 former band Gluecifer fell apart in 2005, due to the lack of motivation among
\n\u00a0 certain members. It took the Captain about two seconds to figure out what to
\n\u00a0 do next. Forming a new band was an obvious decision. The new band is called
\n\u00a0 Bloodlights from Oslo\/Norway.
\n\u00a0 Before Bloodlights entered Studio Wong in Berlin in January, Poon had been writing
\n\u00a0 songs for the last 18 months, and the band had been spending endless hours in
\n\u00a0 the rehearsal room. The band spent a month in the studio with producer Phil
\n\u00a0 Caivano, ex-guitarist of US eastcoast rockers Monster Magnet. After the recordings
\n\u00a0 Caivano brought the tapes to Vancouver in Canada, where the mix was done by
\n\u00a0 no other than Mike Fraser (Aerosmith, Metallica, AC\/DC).<\/p>\n

\u00a0 The new untitled Bloodlights album includes 12 songs that rock. Most of the
\n\u00a0 songs would be great radio songs. In the first song “Where The Stars Don’t
\n\u00a0 Shine” you can hear some guitar soli, as well as in the song “Bullshit
\n\u00a0 On Your Mind”. “Bloodlights” gives you an idea of the meaning
\n\u00a0 of the word, which comes from the phenomenon of seeing red flashes right before
\n\u00a0 passing out after consuming too much of everything. The third song “Addiction”
\n\u00a0 is punkier, faster and a little bit chaotic, “Hammer And The Wheel”
\n\u00a0 as well. Captain Poon’s voice is slighly smoky, can be harsh and gentle, desperate
\n\u00a0 and hating, depending on the song and mood. In the songs “Bullshit On Your
\n\u00a0 Mind” and “One Eye Open” the bass sticks out as well, and in
\n\u00a0 “Hammer And The Wheel” the drums seem to stick out most. I like the
\n\u00a0 idea of “taking turns” in having instruments stick out in a song.
\n\u00a0 For me it gives the band a stonger community, so that when you listen to it
\n\u00a0 you don’t just remember the vocals most or the guitar, but the complete band.
\n\u00a0 “Rain On A Sunny Day” has a great funky and punky melody, this song
\n\u00a0 sticks ou because of it. “Screwing Yourself” is a slow and thoughtful
\n\u00a0 song with female backing vocals. “Easy Target”, “Against The
\n\u00a0 Flow”, “Bald and Outrageous” make your head nod and tap the feet
\n\u00a0 along with the beat. The last song on the album “Over When I’m Done”
\n\u00a0 sums up the album quite well. A nice rock song with a great melody and nice
\n\u00a0 lyrics.<\/p>\n\n\n
