Tonight I went to see a punk show. It was Sham69, a Punk legend, who played at Nachtleben. It was very crowded. The audience was a mix of skinheads and punks, left and right people rocking all together in a mosphit, picking each other up when somebody fell and taking care of each other. Almost everybody seemed to have a drink in their hands. It was an amazingly familiar atmosphere
\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"Opener was a local band called Monkey Suite. They completed their lineup in 2008 and rocked ever since. Their style was very rockabilly and so was their music. They had many friends in the audience and everybody was dancing along to the music. The female singer had a strong voice and entertained everybody in the venue. Their set was quite long for an opening act. They played for almost an hour. Everybody enjoyed the performance of Monkey Suite.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n
Up next was Sham 69. Sham 69 are an English punk band that formed in Hersham in 1976. Although not as commercially successful as many of their contemporaries, albeit with a greater number of chart entries, Sham 69 has been a huge musical and lyrical influence on the Oi! and streetpunk genres. The band allegedly derived their name from a piece of graffiti that founder Jimmy Pursey saw on a wall. It originally said Walton and Hersham ’69 but had partly faded away, and made reference to when Walton & Hersham F.C. secured the Athenian League title in 1969.Now everyone in the audience was dancing and moshing around, singing along and drinking. The band rocked on stage, talking to the audience in between the songs. The bass player was Al Campell of UK Subs, his jumping around reminded me of Anti-Flag, a very energetic way of playing bass. Everybody had a blast. As Sham 69 left the stage everybody was shouting for encore, so they returned for another few songs. It was an amazing show.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
