As Masheena describe themselves, they play West Coast hard rock, refocusing from homeland Norwegian Bergen to the North American vibes. Being no newbies in person, all four full-packed their skills in 2000’s. Let The Spiders In is the second album in reshaping story started in 2021.
The 10 tracks awaits inside the box. “Been Waiting” introduced by strings on nerves. Shifted the tone to playful and cheery in “Going to the Mountain”, the tune composes on one-string stoner connotation with sound of homeland calling. The similar intonation doubled by handclapping stays in “One Eye”. The tune is so light but groovy. Gambling vibe of West Coast appears on the surface during “A Game You Don’t Want to Lose”. Lullaby “Life is only a sin” turns unexpected plot twist, the diverging refrain homonymous merge “Life is but a sin” with “Let the spiders in”. Almost acoustic guitars narrative in “Sara Lost Her Way” sounds so optimistically, so we hope for best and Sara would find it. Proto rock meets you in “You Owe Me”, or even not so glazed Chuck Berry stepped in. The band also mentioned Thin Lizzy as favorite band, so you can feel the sense.
It’s not canonical stoner or desert rock example, although, no doubt, Masheena knows how to play scratching guitars.
