Label: Season of Mist Releasedate: 26-02-2021
Culted is a Swedish/Canadian formation making Black/Doom Metal. The band formed around 2007. The band released two albums before and now the third one is seeing light. It is called “Nous” and it is available now via Season of Mist.
“Nous” is album that you need to listen to a couple of times. When hearing it first you can get past the urgency, but digging into it deeper you feel the darkness coming towards you. Lyrically the band is seeking nowadays themes, topics that are daily digestion anno 2021.
Tempo’s shifting from utterly Doom towards a bit faster, the atmosphere is dragging you along with it. The sound is heavy and depressing. They don’t give you a lot of light in between, but when they do it are often moments to cherish. An accoustic guitar, some sinister sounds, that what you need to take it from.
The songs on the album are suiting together quite well. You would not find one jumping out more than the other cause it feels much more like they are part of the whole. They strengthen eachother in the tracklist. If you had to pick one it may be “Opiate The Hounds” perhaps. But the album really listens better as a whole.
Culted has created an interesting album. You want to give it some extra listening before you judge it. The thick and heavy feel of it may not be for everyone, but if Blackened Doom is your thing this one is an interesting album for you.
