Chorea Minor is a German electro project by musician & singer Chorea, which was founded in the early 90s. Although founder Chorea performed with various other projects, he is now releasing a double album under this name. It is called “Black White Moon”.
The first part of this release is the “Black” part. I must admit that this was not something I enjoyed too much. The songs are generic, you heard this hundreds of times before and whenever there are vocals they are not really of high quality. Specifically the male vocals. They lack a bit of dimension, kinda nasal. It gives a bit of a struggle to sit out. But the description stated that both parts were produced by different producers so that could mean that the “White” part gives us something else.
White
And yes, that turns out to be something different. The music is a bit more exciting, more instrumental. “A New Daylight” is a bit more light for example, more cinematic in a way. It is a much more interesting part to listen to. Reminding me more of 80’s synth music. More Jarre than the stereotypical German Electropop we get a whole wave off.
Whatever the reason was for Chorea Minor to pick two producers we have not been told but it feels like you are listening to two different artists and makes you wonder whether it was supposed to create a sort of poll amongst listeners, to see which way the band would go to. Obviously we have our preferences, but when you are looking at the whole product you can only conclude that the band gives their listeners a product they can spend good time with. We just hope that if they have similar feelings as us, they are going to make it to the “White” part because if we did not have to review the whole album we may not have listened the entire thing.
