Dutch Black Metal formation Fluisteraars is coming with a new release. It is called “Bloem” which translates to “Flower” in English. The EP is available now.
The duo that got their name out while still being a trio comes with “Bloem” as a name… not necessarily a typical Black Metal thing, so that is one thing that draws your attention. Yet The two make it clear that what they do is well thought. Dreamy soundscapes with eerie vocals are created. Sometimes it is a song like “Vlek” which has a strong instrumental start, quite full sound that lays close to what you have been used to from these guys. Together with “Tere Muur” the band comes with a familiar sound for this EP. Where the instrumental parts are evolving the songs they have a bit of a “light” side as well. Fluisteraars-light. The variation within a song self is remarkable.
Then there is “Eeuwige Ram”, a track that shows you some outstanding elements, the atmosphere is quite melancholic and when the vocals come in the leverage effect is started, surely one of the highlights of the release.
Altogether, “Bloem” is a release that you will keep spinning for a bit. The variation in it and the way the band works with the atmospheres in their songs are key here. Whether a non-Dutch speaker will enjoy the lyrics is debatable, but it seems like you don’t need the words to grasp the feel of it. But… easily said… as a Dutch speaker.
