Egeria – As Night Falls

Releasedate: 2019

Egeria is a Dutch Symphonic Metal formation which founded in 2013. After a debut EP in 2016 the band now returns with a brand new release. EP “As Night Falls” is out now.

At first it seems that the band has found a lot of inspiration in at the larger names of the scene. The band is still quite a starter and that makes that sometimes you feel there is a bit too much taken from their heroes and too few of themselves. Clichés are all over the release but there is one thing that makes this acceptable and that is the quality of it. Because more of the same can sometimes be ok.

Opener “A Night At The Mansion” is a track that pleases the listener. They have a heavy start with it and perhaps the most finished song on the release. “What Lies Beneath” is less interesting to hear, the band takes it down a bit, it feels like the song needed some more work before putting it out there. They also included a ballad. “Shattered Mirrors” which suffers from the same issues. Not there yet.

For an EP they have a good startingpoint, but the band should look a bit further to which elements define who they are and master these. Some work to be done, before a full length album must arrive.
