Hurts – Happiness

Releasedate: 27-08-2010; Label: Sony
By: Nina Mende

Hurts is a British synthpop duo from Manchester composed of singer Theo Hutchcraft and synth player Adam Anderson.

In July 2009, the band featured as “Band of the Day” on Guardian.co.uk. They finished in fourth position in BBC’s Sound of 2010 poll. The band’s song “Wonderful Life” was notably remixed by Arthur Baker. In early 2010 they officially released their debut single, “Better Than Love”, and played their first ever live shows. The song “Illuminated” also was the soundtrack to Sky1 HD’s advert to promote their best-watched seasonal programmes in High Definition (Bones, House, Fringe) in spring/summer 2010. Their debut album “Happiness” is out now. It contains a duet with Kylie Minogue entitled “Devotion”.

The first song on “Happiness” called “Silver Lining” is somehow reminding of OneRepublic with a big and overwhelming sound. The album stays overwhelming and will definitely leave you speechless. “Wonderful Life” is the hit single that is constantly on the radio at the moment and it definitely gets stuck in everybody’s head. The music is danceable and positive with a melancholic touch that it gets you being torn between these two emotions. Catchy club tunes or slow house melodies, Hurts created a more than brilliant album with “Happiness”. Conquering radio stations and MTV in a rush the music is spreading fast. Theo has an awesome voice that is burning into your brain unwilling to leave ever again. The lyrics are awesome and definitely deserve a close listen if they’re not getting stuck in your head along with Theo’s voice and the catchy music anyway. Each song is a hit single on its own. Check it out and get addicted to Hurts and “Happiness”.
