Sean Riley, Portuguese, have been working with his Slowriders on a new album. “Only Time Will Tell” is made in Portugal, while the band had passed on the opportunity to go overseas.
“Only Time Will Tell” brings up a gypsy in the listener. Guitar, harmonica, fire, freedom, feel it all. All ingredients for a relaxed evening with these guys, but sometimes the undertone tends to be a bit dark. You can try to ignore it, but realize the band speaks from their heart and tells about life. Life is not always sunny and bright. Overall the band makes you feel comfortable easily, like you stepped into a group of friends, that give you a warm welcome to their world.
Some lines of the lyric seem to be recognized from other known songs, but the band does not necessarily makes that connection to other bands. A full sound of their own comes with the various use of instruments and vocals that have plenty variation it them. At some point you get to know where they are at, but at the other point they surprise you with showing something different, yet keeping it all in one line. That is Sean Riley’s art!
