Supports: Jonathan Clancy; Venue: Circolo Degli Artisti, Rome (Italy)

Giardini di Mirò is an Italian rock band formed in 1995. After the release of their latest album “Il Fuoco” and a brief tour to promote it, they’re now touring Italy again.

Jonathan Clancy had the job of entertaining the audience before Giardini di Mirò, with which he collaborated in their album “Dividing Opinios”. This young Italian singer/guitarist has two bands, “His Clancyness” and “Settlefish”, but tonight walked the stage alone. I found it quite brave to take the responsibility to entertain such a crowd all alone, and he’s to admire for that. Unfortunately his embarrassment got considerably heard and seen; he seemed really shy and acted the whole time in such a hasty way that made it impossible to involve the audience in the music. Still, his skills both with vocals and guitars gained some consensus here and there among the public. It was a shame his shyness held him back from showing what he really could do. Maybe a band to support him would have turned it all different, maybe he needed a while to let himself go. I guess only time will tell until I’ll have the chance to see him again.

Giardini di Mirò’s “L’altro Tour” got started mainly with the aim of putting forward again those songs that hadn’t been played live for a while. Although the general sound of the band can be put into post rock, Giardini di Mirò always try to differ every album from the other and, when playing live, this sound gets harder to describe. It’s surely deeply rooted into post rock but, when such different songs are blended the tying element is present in the intensity in bringing them to the audience. Every member have different ways to take up the stage and convey it: singer and guitarist Corrado Nuccini gives an elegant turn to the performance thanks to his composure, Jukka Reverberi tries to involve the audience more directly with his outgoingness. However, the way they do it always stays very professional and flawless. Jonathan Clancy supported them with some vocals on couple of songs and in these moments I was glad to notice his attempt to come out of his shell and overcome his shyness. The overall response was more than satisfying and was returned with some jokes and, above all, with a great show.
