The Swedish rock quartet with glaze of punk “Backyard Babies” started their way to rock n’ roll fame in 1989. During several years both of singers Nicke Borg and Dregen had solo projects and even released albums as “Nicke Borg Homeland” and “Dregen”. “Silver and Gold”, the eighth studio album of “Backyard Babies”, is out 1st of March 2019.
For me it was the hardest material for review because of two important reasons: I really like “Backyard Babies” and the album is just disappointment. Ok, let see what undercover Vitruvian man’s collage of the band members. Is there canon of any proportion? There is less rage in lyrics, no chances for branding new hate. All in for “Good morning midnight”, the catching opener with solid riffs and melody you might remember for a long time. You can pay attention on “44 Undead”, thoughtful and melodic ballad. Bluesy “Ragged flag” showed off the dust of forgotten material. “Shovin’ rock” about celebrate 30th anniversary of the band being. Needless to say, “Them XX” was release for their twenties in 2009.
Maybe fashion changes with winners but not this time. Not even bronze was deserved. Sadly, I just recommend re-listen to “Total 13” instead.
