Imha Tarikat – Kara Ihlas

Imha Tarikat is a black metal band hailing from Germany and Turkey. Their debut album “Kara Ihlas” is out and it was an interesting surprise for me to discover this band from my home country, Turkey. There aren’t many black metal bands from Turkey or Turkish origin so I dove into this one with some expectations and well, I was blown away! The vocals, the aggression, the rawness and the fast pace… It is exactly the black metal that I like. As much as I like atmosphere in my BM, this record offers none of it and this is exactly how it should be; from the beginning to the end, it’s just darkness in the form of fast blast beats, aggressive vocals and riffs. That being said, the highlight is definitely the vocals, which also offer a bit of the post-BM approach. One could somehow feel the pain, the nihilism, and the anger.

Now you might ask where my focus was while spinning “Kara Ihlas”.. Was it the vocals or the music?… Well, normally it’s a bit of both in BM albums I listen but this time, my focus was not the lyrics but 100% music in all its glory. It captivates you in this downward spiral and leaves you there. One aspect I also liked is the length of the songs; normally this might be bit of a problem in the BM genre as the songs are either too long or not long enough. “Kara Ihlas” is also just in harmony in this context. The feeling I got from the whole record is that it can be considered as a whole as each piece is connected and follows one another, forming a concept.

“Kara Ihlas” was definitely a ‘slap-in-the-face’ surprise in every way possible. Definitely recommended if you like the fast and aggressive side of black metal!
