Italian Black/Doom metal band Deadly Carnage released their 5th album “Through The Void, Above The Suns” this year and with a change of musical style from their previous works. They define themselves as Post-Black/Doom as their genre, I can also suggest Atmospheric Black Space Metal taking their manifesto on their official FB page into consideration. It starts with the sentence; “There is a sacred geometry in the whispers of the strings, creating music in the space between spheres, take a journey through the Void, above the Suns…” and ends with this one; “Cosmos is breathing. And we are through Streams of Shine.” Whoa. Hence my to-go genre for them; Space Metal. 🙂
Musical craftsmanship is utmost professional and mixing/production is top level, but I cannot put Deadly Carnage in the same category with the most known melodic BM bands…and that’s such a good thing in my opinion. The fact that a band offers you something fresh and different from their genre-sakes. You’d also probably think black metal is supposed to be satanic and dark, but Deadly Carnage is going to disappoint you if you expect evil and sinister lyrics. You can say that the band is using space as their theme for the album and if you’re also interested in this field, what a trip this album can offer you! I like the fact that these guys are from Italy because atmospheric black metal most usually comes from Scandinavia, so extra kudos to the band for this surprising element.
The tracks like “Fractals” and “Hyle” have soothing and stilling vibe to them, I found myself lost in meditating in thoughts. I would say their music isn’t coming from an angry place, rather it’s curious and full of invention.
If you are a fan of this genre (Post-Black, Atmospheric Metal), I highly suggest you give this album an ear and you will find much more than I did.
