Pastoratet is a Swedish punk band which was formed in 2009. The band is a formation of many bands; all the band members have been playing punk since the early 90´s. With members from the old skate punk band New Deal, ska punks The Liptones and punk bands Snutjävel and Vänsternäven, Pastoratet have made their own sound and name in Sweden. Their EP “THLM” is out this month. This got me especially curious since I normally associate Sweden with the death/black metal scene so I decided to give the EP a try.
“THLM” comes with four tracks that provide us elements from punk and hard rock. The EP deals with concepts such as first world problems and rich people with money and power who just want more and more… Although the band describes their style as punk, I wouldn’t solely categorize this EP like that as I find the songs too soft, catchy and not raw enough for punk music. So hard rock, in my opinion, rather forms the base of this EP’s sound and those punk lovers out there who like their music hardcore, raw and aggressive might not really get into this album.
Does this make the album not good enough though? Hell no. The songs are pretty catchy and even took me back to my teen years where I was a huge fan of the alternative/hard/pop-punk rock scene in the US. Sadly the EP is very short, lasting for 12 minutes and generally it’s not an outstanding one but the punk/hard-rock lovers might like this EP nevertheless. I will also be putting these guys in my radar. Let’s see how the next releases will be.
