Eryn Non Dae. is a French band. Formed in 2001 under a different name, they became who they are today in 2004. The band delivers us extreme metal in the form of complex and brutal style with concepts of darkness and apocalypse. Their latest release “Abandon of the Self” has been out.
Here’s something the fans of the extreme and complex side of metal will enjoy. Although the music is rotated around the mix of post-BM and progressive metal (in my opinion….), the concepts and the extreme vocals make this an interesting one that go beyond these genres. One feels the overall darkness and the melancholy; while listening to the record, I felt as if I was floating in dark space and fighting my emotions and those complex thoughts in my mind. This entanglement of the dark, apocalyptic sound mixed with the brutal vocals is quite intriguing for even people like me who are not used to this type of sound or ‘extreme’ style. On the other hand, if you are not a fan of long and complex songs, you might need some time getting used to this piece. Each song is more than five minutes and you can see that the band has certain concepts… so this is not a typical album to just ‘give it a go’. Furthermore, one can also question whether this style is unique but I think that the band has a certain aim and they managed to depict this quite well in the record. Apart from the ‘long and complex’ aspect of the songs, they are progressive, dark and the album is well-produced overall; definitely a piece worth checking out if you like your metal progressive, complex & extreme!
