[schema type=”review” name=”Kalmah – Palo” description=”Label: Spinefarm Records” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2018-04-11″ ]The Finnish Melodic Death band Kalmah have been quiet for a while but this year the band is ready to let world know they are still around. A new album is out now. It is called: “Palo”.
“Seventh Swamphony” already dates back to 2013 so we are quite happy to have a new release of these guys in our hands. The last one pleased us well, so good to hear something new. Central in the release are the guitars. They drive the songs and although the rest of the band does not fade in background at all, they are key to what Kalmah brings. ‘Palo” is not different from that. The band gone a little further in the feel of it perhaps. Thrashier, deeper, darker and a tight bit more passionate. Suits the name.
Yet the question may rise, if they became a bit more vehement, is that catchiness still on board? Check. Some songs don’t need much plays to get them in mind and are catching you as a listener. The variation in the songs is well thought, you keep your attention from the beginning until the last second. Something that not all bands do.
Altogether “Palo” is that long awaited album that is finally there. Not disappointing at all, quite surprising even to see them stay true to their own sound so much and even built onto it. With some more plays the album grows and grows on you, so we expect this one will be long in your playlist. A wise investment.
