Emperors’s Ihsahn is making himself ready for his seventh solo album. It is called “Ámr” and is available now.
Through his released Ihsahn evolved more towards a Prog artist, and that direction is still very visible with this release, but the album has gone closer to its roots as well. But first, let’s start with a touch of synths, a somewhat industrial sound. A little surprised with that, well there is much more to wonder about. The melodics for example, riffs are taking just that spotlight a little more, and so they shine bright.
Catchy lyrics are also helping you too fall in love with the release quite fast. The deep emotional “Sámr” shows a whole different side than “One Less Enemy“ where the Black Metal part of Ihsahn claims back some terrain. The album simply has all that diversity and although the songs are maybe a bit further apart than on earlier releases, the whole suits together anyway. “Ámr” gives intimate sounds that are created by having the whole in a bit different balance. It’s the mix of all that makes it what it is.
The whole has a dark touch and something confidential while you are listening to something new from Ihsahn. As an artist he keeps experimenting and evolving from one place to another and does it with Olympic precision. Looks like “Ámr” hits gold to us!
