Purpendicular us a Deep Purple tribute band. The band formed in 2007 and has been touring heavily since. A release called “Venus To Volcanus” is out now.
Even though these guys are in a tribute band, they are refraining from being a cover band, yet the guys are keeping the bounds with Deep Purple tight. Mr Ian Paice is supporting this project and has been part of the release as well as been seen in the band’s live shows. This time, also Tony Carey (Rainbow) is on board and makes an appearance. So the band has obviously got the support of many. And when listening to this release that makes sense. The guys are taking the Deep Purple sounds as their basis but expand on it as they are in fact their own band.
Compositions are long and comprehensive enough to keep one interested, the band is not defining their own thing but step into some existing sound and expand on it. It works well, they are skillful enough to have a die hard fan of Deep Purple get satisfaction of a new release of them.
With a band like this you are on a fine line of being a rip off and actually adding something to a scene and sound and Purpendicular is certainly adding something, filling a void perhaps. “Venus To Volcanus” is going to find its way to the eager Deep Purple fans.
