02-12-2007 Hardcore Superstar

Support: Crashdiet; Nachtleben, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

After the release of the new album „Dreamin’ in a Casket“ Hardcore
Superstar are now on „Mentally Damaged“ world tour for the next couple
months. So it happened that they also played at the Nachtleben in Frankfurt/Germany.
It’s been seven years since they played there. But Frankfurt hadn’t
forgotten the Swedish band, the Nachtleben was crowded and even hours before
doors opened, many people were waiting outside. Downstairs the stage was already
set up with the drumsets of both bands and the banners of both. On each side
of the Hardcore Superstar drum set they had up banners with the cover of the
new album “Dreamin’ in a Casket”.

Opening act was Crashdiet, also from Sweden, but with a singer from Kuopio/Finland.

The band has a tragic history, because their original singer Dave Lepard passed away in January 2006. But now they have Olliver and the sleaze rock crew from Stockholm/Sweden can continue conquering the world. And they do. They also have just released a new album called “The Unattractive Revolution” and are now on tour with Hardcore Superstar. Somehow these four guys reminded me of Hanoi Rocks, The Pleasures and The Ark because of their very glamorous style, the tons of hairspray and the music. It is really great to see that this has not died out completely, and hopefully never will. Crashdiet played for 30 minutes   only, but the audience in the more than crowded Nachtleben enjoyed it big time: they sang and danced along, supported the Swedes and the Finn, cheered and applauded that I almost forgot they weren’t headlining. Almost all of the songs they played were taken off the new album, only two were taken from their first album   “Rest in Sleaze”.
And this is what they played:
  In the Raw
  Queen Obscene / 69 shots
  Die Another Day
  I Don’t Care
  Riot in Everyone
  XTC Overdrive

Now Hardcore Superstar from Gothenburg/Sweden were up. This band exists for ten years now and they have just their sixth album released. It is always a great show and lots of fun when they enter the stage. And so was it this time.
Not only had the audience gone wild, but also the band. Jocke (singer) was jumping around and running up and down the stage and standing on the edge of it all the time, so that if you stood in the first row, you definitely got in touch with him or had to be careful not to get hit. Further did he always throw around his microphone band so that Silver (guitar) and Martin (bass) had to watch their step not to trip over it. The band interaction with the audience was quite familiar at times and the audience did everything Hardcore Superstar asked for, no matter what it was. Everybody could sing along to the songs they played and we all had a blast. Most of the songs they played were taken from the latest album,   and most of the others were taken from the black album (the one with the black cover and the hand holding the silver star).

For one song Olliver, the singer of Crashdiet, joined Jocke at the vocals to
perform “Someone Get me A Doctor” by Van Halen and rocked the club.
I can’t wait for both of them to be back.

And here are some of the songs they played:
  Need no Company
  Medicate me
  Silence for the Peacefully
  She’s Offbeat
  Dreamin’ in a Casket
  Hateful
Sorry for the Shape I’m in
  Wild Boys
  Sensitive to the Light
This is for the Mentally Damaged
  Last Forever
  No Resistance
  Bag on Your Head

We Don’t Celebrate Sundays
  Kick on the Upper Class
