Arctic Sunrise – When Traces End

Arctic Sunrise is a German formation existing out of Torsten Verlinden and Steve Baltes. The band says to be inspired by Ultravox and Depeche Mode and create now their own synth songs. They released a full length album called “A Smarter Enemy” via Echozone last year and they now return with a new one. “When Traces End” is out now.

On the previous album my critique was that the songs were a bit too much alike, so when getting this album in my hands I was really curiously to see if they changed that. Im happy to write that they certainly worked on that aspect. I am now given an album that I enjoy listening from the beginning to the end, having their synth driven sound take me by the hand and show them their world.
What the band also improved on are the vocals. Lyrically they are more interesting to follow but also in the way it is brought. It has catchiness and the songs just stick in mind much longer. The band instrumentally gave us a bit more as well. Maybe not a radical chance, they stay true to what their initial ideas were but just expanded on that a bit.

Altogether you could say that “When Traces End” is simply and album of a band that is growing. When they bring this all live as well we can imagine their fan base rapidly growing. Such a pleasant release of a band that has the potential to become big.
