Beseech – My Darkness, Darkness

It’s about 10 years that yours truly travelled up north to see the farewell concert of the Swedish band Beseech. Never fun, if you follow a band long time to see an end of it. The members went on with different bands but when a while ago we heard the band decided to return some excitement rose. Curiosity as well of course, from the previous line up many had gone into a different direction, most lately we were listening to the album of the band Dark, featuring some of the ex-Beseech members. In the line-up that the band is now, anno 2016 when a new album is ready to release, we see some familiar names as well a few new ones. Together they created the album “My Darkness, Darkness” which is March 4th.

Starting the album, you may have to get used to what you are hearing, it could all go, there has been diversity in the band’s past discography and this album will be one that has a familiar touch but brings you clearly something new as well. On vocals we have now Klas (original member) and Angelina. In the first songs Angelina’s vocals are not always coming out strongest, but when you get further in the track list it seem to fall more into place. The songs are all melancholic, a hint of darkness, dark romance and are relatively calm.
The band released the song “The Shimmering” as one of the singles, which seems logic, but it is perhaps the title track that stays around longest. A certain catchiness in it, the fire that awakes from it, the passion comes across. A more strange song on the album is the song “Darksome” in which the guitars are a bit more dominant and guide you a bit more than in the other songs.

For a first listener, the album is one that has a lot of atmosphere but with the calm song in there it requires you to listen with a bit more attention to get dragged into it. It is worth it, because you start hearing more and more each time you listen to it. The album you can listen quite some times before you have enough, but you have to promise to yourself to let it grow on you. A tip for the long time Beseech fan, get into it blanco. Have no expectations, forget the previous albums for a while and let it overcome you. Then you’ll be surprised.

For those who want to know how this will come out live, check back with us after the first week of March and we will tell you.
