After all these Christmas and New Year Eve’s festivities, we do feel the need to relax and to listen to new sounds, especially different to the ones we are used to listen to. Then I decided to pick up an album from a band from Norway. And no, it’s not from a black metal band. The musical scene in Norway is very rich and diverse, full of surprises. Guess what?

So here’s this seventh release simply named “7” from this Norwegian trio named El Caco. El Caco is the Spanish word for thief, and yes, since the first track “Curious”, chosen as a single, not only it has really stolen my attention but also taken quite a long time to get used to it, and the result ending up in myself singing the lyrics word by word. Ok, it did surprise me by the positive and even not being my favorite genre, it is for sure, a good company for difficult moments.

A noticeable thing in this album is the way how it is produced, its sound is so different from another rock album as if it was recorded live but without the audience’s voices, well, it would be placed on the heavy-rock wave with tastes of grunge and stoner, and all this combination of structures is very well done, just like a bomb that is about to be detonated, and only after you have absorbed it then the bomb has already exploded and El Caco definitely stole your attention, ears and heart through this energetic and expressive voice of Øyvind Osa, together aligned with the cool bass lines, the precision of the drums by Fredrik and the fury of Anders guitars.

For sure this new jewel of the Norwegian heavy-rock crown has a nice and simple artwork that can’t also be ignored and it was done by the genius Marcelo Vasco (also responsible for artworks of bands like 1349, Borknagar, Dimmu Borgir, or even Slayer, just to mention a few examples).
Gifted of an excellent production and mixing conducted by Herbrand Larsen (Audrey Horne, Enslaved, Ov Hell), this “7” jewel has also other great tracks like “Reach Out” and “Those Possessed”.
Seriously recommended if you like new challenges and it’s the perfect soundtrack for your trips.
