A Tuesday night at the Zoom in Frankfurt brought out quite some people: Michael Monroe and Hardcore Superstar were in town. The line in front of the venue Zoom queued long before the doors opened. Lots of fans of both bands had come out tonight to see them play together. Both bands had released new albums this year and both were known for energetic performances.
Michael Monroe was first tonight. A legend when it comes to glam rock. Not only because of all those years as singer for Hanoi Rocks but also with his solo career. Michael Monroe had influenced many other glam rock legends like Mötley Crüe or Guns N’Roses. And tonight he was here. In the little Zoom, playing for us with his band. Absolutely energetic and fit as if he was in his twenties. Amazing.
Michael Monroe and his band rocked the Zoom as if it was a huge arena. The energy level was way up and infected everyone around. There was literally no one standing still during their show. Michael also played with some of the fans in the front row, climbed around on stage and doing splits which left everyone speechless. Sometimes he picked up his saxophone or harmonica to accompany the band in the melodies. Simply amazing. The band played for an hour. Playing old and new songs of the solo career of Michael Monroe, songs from the latest album “Blackout States”, as well as covers from various bands, including some of the Hanoi Rocks hits. And the audience knew the lyrics to each and every single song. Everyone was cheering and shouting until the band had finished playing their very last songs. An amazing show that left everyone with a smile in their faces. The band did not want to leave the stage and played an encore. But they had to leave the stage eventually, because Hardcore Superstar still had to rock the venue. The cheering would not stop and you could see the band was happy about such a brilliant show and all this appreciation by the fans.
Hardcore Superstar was headlining tonight. The Swedish band has been making music for almost twenty years and still do not get tired of playing shows and rocking the audience. The guys came on stage, eager to rock the house and they did. Energetic and powerful songs performed with strength and passion, dragged along the audience to not only move along to the music but also shout and sing, cheer after each song and have a blast. The dance floor was one big mosh for some songs, but everyone still took care of each other, making sure no one gets hurt in the movement. Hardcore Superstar moved around on stage, playing with and to the audience, sharing their joy and passion, receiving smiles, shouting, clapping and thumbs up. And gifts.
Later throughout the show, the singer Jocke had to share one of their gifts with the audience: Someone had given them a plant that was close to dying. Now leaving everyone dazzled with that info, the guys kept on rocking. The audience could sing along to every single song, and they did. Hardcore Superstar played a nice collection of all their albums. Including quite some off their latest album. For more than an hour the Swedes entertained everyone in the venue. As they got closer to the end, Hardcore Superstar played their oldest hits: “We Don’t Celebrate Sundays” and “Last Call For Alcohol”. For the latter everyone was raising their glasses, drinking along with the band who had gotten a glass of Jägermeister in the meantime. A brilliant and energetic show that left everyone exhausted but feeling satisfied. A great night with amazing bands. Make sure you go party with them when they hit your town.
