Jonne is a musical project formed by the Korpiklaani vocalist/mainman Jonne Järvelä in 2014. Although the formation is quite new, the ideas for a solo album has been in Jonne’s mind a few years ago when he realized that the material he was writing did not match Korpiklaani’s style… and so Jonne was born! Jonne’s self-titled album is the first album under his solo project and it has been re-released under Massacre Records recently.

One thing is certain; this album is really different from Korpiklaani’s style as Jonne has stated! From the first song, the melodies and that natural spirit will capture you and you will definitely want to hear more. The album has a happy mood from the start but in general, it does not follow a certain atmosphere; this is the type of music that you just enjoy listening to while enjoying the moment and being one with the nature. All in all, we are talking about Jonne and a folk project and that shamanic spirit is one of the elements forming the album’s character.

Musically, the album itself is quite colorful, like a harmony of many instruments like fiddles, accordion, flutes and great vocals taking you to different journeys. Let’s not forget that this project features 10 awesome musicians (2 of them being AMORPHIS members) so there’s no doubt about the quality and the diversity in the album. I also like the fact that although a lot of musicians are featured, the album feels like ‘one’ and a ‘whole’; each musician integrated their style really well to the record! So long story short, this album will definitely meet your expectations and will even surprise you! My favorites from the album are “Viuluni Laulua Soutaa” and “Metsään on iäksi mieli”

“Jonne” is spiritual, natural and from the heart… Definitely recommended to lovers of shamanic music and of course Korpiklaani!
