To/Die/For is a gothic rock/metal band from Finland. Formed under the name Mary-Ann in 1993 back then, they are considered as one of the important names when it comes to the mixture rock/metal music and Gothic melodies. The band has released a brand new record called “Cult” recently.

The album is easy to listen to from the beginning to end with catchy melodies and guitar riffs. It’s almost like a dance between the gothic elements and the guitar riffs. Even the 80s influence can be recognized in the record, especially in the song “Straight Up”; the combination of female and male vocals are quite nice and add that catchy oldies atmosphere to the record. What makes the album even more interesting are the vocals sung by Jape Perätalo; you can feel that he sings from the heart and this is definitely one of the highlights. The album also has some slow, down-tempo songs like “End of Tears” and “Mere Dream” which will be loved by the fans of the romantic side of gothic rock!

Generally, “Cult” is an album that will make the listeners dance for sure; it’s catchy and melodic! I wouldn’t say I was mesmerized by the record though; I found the overall rhythm and melodies a bit monotone as I look for diversity in an album but that’s my personal opinion. I think the lovers of this genre in particular will like the record. My personal favorites are “You” and “End of Tears”; they reflect the band’s style and the overall vibe of the album really well!

“The Cult” is recommended for the Gothic Rock lovers out there! Go and get it!
