Cancer Bats – Searching For Zero

Cancer Bats – Searching For Zero

Releasedate: ; Label: BMG
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Canadian formation Cancer Bats managed to get themselves a name out there with their previous releases and energetic live shows. This year the band comes with the release of a new album called “Searching For Zero”.

The band has a solid sound and it could easily fall into a too humorous way of bringing their music, but a critical note is there and the guys are not holding back on having a spicy edge to it. The message is clear, Cancer Bats is a grown up band and they know very well what they want to do with their sound. There is a fine line between being secure and being cocky but there is some nice humble touch to their sound. They got it together and they worked for it but they aren’t overdoing it.
The vocals are having the raw edge that makes it surprising here and there and when the band takes their tempo back in a song like “Beelzebub” the guys show some class that makes them rather unique. It sets a great contrast with “All Hail” which is much more aggressive.

“Searching For Zero” is an album that is made by a band that has been doing this for long and enriches the genre with being creative at many points. A great release that you may end up listening a little more often than you would have expected.
