04-04-2015 Satyricon

Supports: Oslo Faenskap and Vredehammer; Venue: Doornroosje, Nijmegen (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Satyricon is getting their tour started and the very first date was scheduled in Netherlands.

SatyriconIt took quite a while before the people were actually allowed to enter the venue, the show obviously running late. There were two support acts, Oslo Faenskap and Vredehammer, but due to all the delays the bands both performed really short sets. Perhaps 10/15 minutes each which is ridiculously short to give a proper image of what they are up too.

Satyricon themselves started in time. And that was definitely a need, for the band played a show that lasted over two hours. A good grab out of their discography with a preference for the most known tracks. The audience takes it in quite calmly. Even when the band plays a song like “Now, Diabolical” it does not make them wild so much. Here and there the guys like to take it a bit more intense. “Filthgrinder” from their 1999 release “Rebel Extravaganza” brings out more passion from the band.

It was announced that in this tour the band would be doing things a bit differently, jam sessions were mentioned and towards the end of the set frontman Satyr tells the audience it is time to let the people know what they are working on. Two albums are planned; a non-metalcover album and a new studio album, releasedate to be announced later. Not anytime soon, as the guys want to take their time for it. Also a slight warning from Satyr; he wants to do less touring so for those who have the chance to see the band live better get a ticket, because you may have to wait longer than you would want to before another opportunity arises.
Then we are granted a listening session of something they are working on. No vocals yet, purely instrumental. At some points it seems like Satyr wants to bring out some words, but at the last moment backs of from it, leaving us with the music to impress us. Nevertheless these minutes of unique material, not heard before is so much appreciated here.

A little moshpit becomes part of the event and when the guys returned after a short break when “Mother North” have energized the audience some more, Satyr demands that moshpit to grow massive when their last two songs are played. His wish their command! A few more minutes of Satyricon is to be celebrated and when the guys are closing it off with “K.I.N.G” it concludes the show in that way that everybody leaves the place satisfied.
