12-03-2015 Moonspell

Supports: Saille, Septicflesh; Venue: Doornroosje, Nijmegen (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Moonspell is on the road with their brand new album “Extinct”. Septic Flesh is with them and we were with them seeing the first date of the tour happening.

SailleIt was the Belgian band Saille that was opening the evening and thinking back of the disappointment last time we saw them we were a bit hesitating considering the live show, but sure the guys made up for that. The music we knew the guys could nail and so that was one thing, but now we were also happy with the live performance the guys did. It seems to come across a little more and while more and more people entered the place the guys had a good chance to highlight their album “Eldritch”. The filled up the stage more and so come that we had a much better Saille-experience than last year in P60.

SepticfleshSepticflesh was next. The band from Greece formed in the 90’s and with nine full length releases on their name the band has plenty material to play for us this night. The guys are introducing a new drummer tonight and he seem to find his way with the guys already.

The last album called “Titan” from 2014 got represented well and with a heavy and solid sound the band knows very well to impress. A few fanatic fans are around, but also those who are less tight to their sounds have plenty to enjoy, for the band seem to be fresh and excited to bring these songs live. The energetic and resolute way of performing makes it easy to feel connected and therefore it is clear that the band leaves this stage with a bunch of new fans on their hands tonight. A good and memorable show from these guys!

MoonspellMoonspell as headliner and a filled venue that came to see them. The album “Extinct” is out only recently but yet all the catchy songs the guys play today seem to be familiar with the fans. And pretty much the complete album got played, so in case you had not caught the “Extinct”-fever then after the concert you will be convinced. Frontman Fernando tells a little bit about the songs and why they play all the new songs instead of keep repeating the older ones for that would be boring after all.

A little surprise comes falling from the sky when playing “The Future Is Dark” which in combination with the story about it gives one goosebumps.
Then the band also puts it to our attention that the album “Wolfheart” is now 20 years old and so some of these tracks are played as well, a celebrationg of what the album have meant to the band.

About one and a half hour later the end is there. A long setlist is played and with the new album being represented as well as the 20 years old “Wolfheart” the band gives an excellent opportunity to see what they started with and where they are now. Metamorphosis of their sound captured in one evening. A glorious evening.
