Ancestral Legacy – Terminal

Releasedate: 29-09-2014; Label: Whispering Voice Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Norwegian formation Ancestral Legacy formed in 1995 under the name of Permafrost. They have changed directions from where they started and are now to be found in the Doom/Gothic area. The band released their album “Terminal” this year.

Since the band’s debut album they have gone through some changes in the line-up and with the release they seem to show the world what they can expect from this now on. The band has vocalist Isadora Cortina, she is classically trained, to put her stamp on the sound, but not without the vocals of Eddie Risdal to make the whole an interesting playfield where the both of them complement each other in strength and outcome.
Instrumentally you may be surprised with a little progressive edge here and there. A song always has various sides and is there to simply demand you keep your attention with it. Enough to hear, so there is no way the music will disappear into the background. The album plays over an hour so with the diversity the band gives it will be an album that you listen with care.

The best parts of the album are found in the most energetic parts and the parts which lead to there. Altogether “Terminal” is a release that experiments and yet comes as an unity and listens pleasantly.

Eddie Risdal – guitars, synth, vocals
