Pär Lindh – Three Christmas Concertos

Releasedate: 2014; Label: Nordverk Classical Masterworks
By: Sabine van Gameren

Pär Lindh releases an album with classical music, “Three Christmas Concertos” is his first classical album and contains also his own work.

It is not that often that we get some pure classic music to review. Pär Lindh is known for his Progressive Rock work, so that explains the connection. On the album are as the title may have told you, three Christmas concerts. The first one is his own composition which was first performed in Sweden 2011. It is a mellow and exciting piece that may not immediately brought us to Christmas mood, but further into it you get there.

The other two pieces on the album are by Arcangelo Corelly (“concerto VIII Fatto per la note di natale”) and Francesco Manfredini (“Concerto grosso per il santissimo natale”). The piece of Manfredini is chosen to be a balance between the other parts. It’s in C-Major with while the other two are in minor keys.

The choice of the two other concerts to accompany Pär’s own work was a smart one. They are close to what he writes himself and therefore the whole suits nicely in a whole release. Unfortunately Christmas is only a part of the year and would you like to have a chance to hear the music live your chances are low. Perhaps some more classical music of Pär’s hands will come out, so this may be a good one to start with.
