Bigelf was in town tonight. After releasing their latest album “Into The Maelstrom” they now present their new art live. The house was filling up slowly. It took both opening acts till the small club was full. One of these opening acts was Jolly from New York. The four-piece played nice rock music and got the present audience warmed up, clapping along and moving a little. Playing with them and trying to integrate them to the show is what convinced the audience to like them and stay for a chat afterwards.

Next opener was from Canada. Bend Sinister was the name. An interesting progressive-indie band with a singer that might as well sing in a church choir. The four guys had looks that reminded of Hippies that got lost in Alaska. Wearing shirts with wolves on it, fur hats and headbands, long necklaces and funky music. Everyone was stunned by the sounds and the good vibes these guys had coming from the stage. About thirty minutes did they enchant the audience before the main act came on stage.

bigelfThe stage was still quite crowded, even though two bands had taken off their gear already. Bigelf is a progressive rock/progressive metal band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1991. It had gotten quiet around them for the past couple years but now they are back with a slightly changed line-up. So it happened that Mike Portnoy – ex-Dream Theater – was along on this tour. Quite some Dream Theater fans had come out to see him play. But that was not the only special guest: The singer’s son came out to drum for one song. And he did a pretty amazing job. For more than an hour Bigelf played old and new songs, getting the audience to go along big time. Each band member gave their heart to the music on stage and the fans loved it. Playing on two pianos at the same time whilst singing Damon Fox got the last ones in the audience. Dim light and heated air, Bigelf is always worth a night out. Don’t miss them.
