Ace Frehley – Space Invaders

Releasedate: 19-08-2014; Label: Steamhammer
By: Sabine van Gameren

Who doesn’t know Ace Frehley? Well those who may not be known with names, you should at least know KISS and then you know exactly what you are up to. Guitarist Ace Frehley has a rich solocareer om his name as well, but it took five years after the previous release to return with something new. “Space Invaders” is there and out now.

“Space Invaders” is a happy album, a good atmosphere, feel good with the ideology of live, like, love it seems to be an album that almost would be like a teenage release. Themewise then. The lyrics are never really outstanding or surprising, the way it is brought neither, but that’s about that. Of course the album is full of great guitarriffs which is basically what is most important of a release like this. However in some songs these simplistic lyrics start to annoy at such a level that it is not fun anymore to listen to the rest. Luckily not all the tracks are that bad. For the fans the album is perhaps a good one as Ace gives a typical album from his hands, but looking at in a way that you don’t know the name and fame it may be that you would dismiss the album a bit too soonish. Ace, maybe an instrumental version of it?
