Thou Shell Of Death – Sepulchral Silence

Releasedate: 30-03-2014; Label: Talheim Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Atmospheric Black Metal formation Thou Shell Of Death from Estonia has been formed in 2010. So far only some smaller releases saw light but with “Sepulchral Silence” we have their debut full length album in our hands.

Atmospherical it is, no doubt about that. You start with a dark, cold and creepy sound that yet has that tone of beauty in it. Slowly as it is, crippling forward and eventually some vocals come in. Screeching here and there, you are building all up. It is a bit dreamy in a way, as if the dark side is trying to convince you with all the beauty it has to offer. And you are tempted. You put your headphones and allow yourself to get dragged into their music. The tempo gets up also, compared to the very beginning, but never expect it to get that high.
In “The Wind of Winter” the drama has even more to the foreground. The album continues after that with two more tracks that embrace the whole atmosphere that has been started. “Sepulchral Silence” is an absolutely stunning album, that has some minimalistic side also, but can touch you right away and lure you in. An addictive release that tastes like more even though the repeat button may be stuck for a while and wouldn’t care to fix that!
