Coraxo – Starlit Flame

Releasedate: 2014
By: Sabine van Gameren

Coraxo is a Finnish band making Electronic Death Metal. The band is based in Tampere and is formed in September 2013. Early this year they came with an EP called: “Starlit Flame”.

It is announced that this EP is the first one out of a trilogy, clearing right away that the two have planned their sound quite well. The sound has a rough and raw edge. The fact that electronic elements are into it does not mean the band kicks in their vehemence. It’s melodics shine at the times needed, but with the vocals around there is not any question about that Death Metal part of their description. A tasteful mix that works out well and with all the effects make a bit of a Prog theme not unthinkable except that it is not really there.

What is a bit of trap for the band with this release is the production. It is now quite rough and raw done as if a bit in hurry maybe, sometimes makes you wonder if that had been given a bit more time and refinement, would it have risen to a higher level? Well, it is their first and the guys have an idea that steps away from there stereotypes altogether, let them show an own face an identity so perhaps the whole will grow some with the future parts of the trilogy. Yet, the guys are off with a good start that awakes our interest, so definitely one to keep your eyes on!
