Altered Symmetry – Prologue

Releasedate: 02-12-2011
By: Sabine van Gameren

Altered Symmetry is a progressive metal band from Bogota, Colombia; the band was founded on 2006 by Miguel Martinez and Julian Cadena. After releasing a couple of EP’s the band is now releasing a full length album called “Prologue”.

The guys are operating in a scene that is growing steady and seeing that more and more Progressive Metal from Colombia is coming in these days is something we highly encourage as we hardly ever get disappointed. Altered Symmetry is not letting us down either when bringing this release that opens quite timid but very well structured. The band slowly builds towards a climax into a song and then goes on with more power than you would have expected. Looking over their borders into different genres they often find themselves happy embracing little elements from that as well. The band never really meets a high tempo but sticks around in the slower songs having the stress on the more melancholic parts. Simply the parts where solo’s come in are most interesting because they don’t break a song but highlight it.
“Prologue” is a nice start for these guys. You could discuss the fact that could grow in strength here and there, but listening careful to the potential that this release offers we don’t need to spell that out to them, it will come naturally.
