Supports: Sun Caged; Venue: De Kelder, Amersfoort (Netherlands)

Fates Warning and Sun Caged are on the road together for a short tour. They visited Amersfoort (The Netherlands) tonight.

Sun Caged joined Fates Warning this evening and some more dates on this tour. A choice that clearly gets approval of many visitors. The band have gone through heavy line up changes during the years of their existence, but most recently they got quite stable. The band seemed very excited and energetic during their set. Vocalist Paul Adrian Villarreal chats a lot with their audience during their show. He tells them about their upcoming release and they played some songs of that. They had made a free giveaway demo but at this night the band was already out of those, so visitors could leave their email address for that. For the fans, the band also steps back to their earliest releases and they manage to set quite an interesting show. The band has a spacious sound, guitars sound quite full and you sometimes wonder if they hide some secret guitarist in the back or have a tape running, but observing it carefully learned the sound is all produced by guitarist Marcel Coenen. He quite knows how to gain attention in his own way. No need for an extreme instrument as the multi string bass that their bassist drags along. Just the sight of it makes sure that for all eyes have been on it for it for at least a few minutes. An interesting set of these guys that got well deserved applause at the end.

Fates Warning was a bit of shock in the beginning. Mainly because the vocalist wasn’t having its best day as he caught a cold somewhere. The first songs most people in the audience probably have not noticed this as the microphone’s volume was quite low. However the band was not keeping back from having the show and giving a lot of energy. Vocalist Ray Alder is still jumping around and giving his best.

The band is working on a new release but as Ray tells this tour was just meant for the fans to show that they are still alive. So come the band picked up their favorite classics, which the fans could sing along and take a bit of the pressure. Fates Warning clearly feels at home in here. Take a look at the bands bassist as he seem to have a smile on his face all the time and enjoys to step a bit closer to the audience on the stage. Both of the guitarist seemed a bit more timid but they did not leave the opportunity to shine go by either. Their set lasted for about 1,5 hour and when they leave the stage the fans are out for more even after they got their encore. When a new album releases the fans will be awaiting a new tour and as this day has gone, we got to know the band is confirmed for the German Headbanger’s Open Air festival, leaving the options for more summer festivals open.
