Finnish formation Hautajaisyö formed in 2014. The band makes Death/Thrash Metal and got their debut full length out in 2015. This year they return with a follow up, it is called “Matkalla Kohti Hautaa”.

The band has a rather heavy approach, a deep dark voice is there for the lyrics that come over heavy guitars. It is clear the band know what they want to bring and what they stand for. A face that shows their identity is visible and that speaks for them. Here and there they get a bit lost with the balance in production perhaps. They could have made some smarter decisions on when and who has to shine a bit more, some of the details now fall a bit behind and that is a pity of the skills they have in them.

A song like “Jos Voisin Silmäni Ummistaa” jumps out to us for the way it breaks the album a bit. It has that calm start and builts up towards a more vehement part where the essence of the band comes out very nicely.
The album ends with a guest appearance of Tomas Ahlroos who we know from his band Omniversum in the song “Vain Tuhkasi Sinusta Muistuttaa”.

Altogether this is a fine release. It needs some finetuning perhaps, just to get the most out of it on a next release, but if they work on that we can be sure this is one we’ll hear more of.
