Verheerer – Maltrér

Verheerer is a German black metal band. Formed in 2008 by BST and SMN, they are relatively new to the scene. After the release of the previous EP, the band has released their first full-length album called “Maltrér”. Let’s dig deep.

I gotta admit the music in the BM scene has become less original nowadays. However with the rise of the post-metal,post-rock,post-BM styles and the emerging of new bands (especially from Germany), the scene has freshened up a bit. In this context, Verheerer can be counted as one of those bands in the German black metal scene that gave it a bit of fresh air. Upon the first spin, you will definitely recognize the influences from the Norwegian BM scene but the band has their own signature and sound. As a matter of fact, it is quite obvious that they have this German BM style (some examples are Ultha or Krater). The darkness and the brutality is there but more importantly, the unique guitar tones give another touch to the sound and this is where the album caught my attention. All in all, it doesn’t always have to be the typical BM or ‘the blastbeats’ that we are all used to but I always appreciate BM artists who experiment a bit and that’s exactly what Verheerer did.. and I am glad they have done so.

Sound-wise, from the beginning to the end, the album might not sound so diverse from the first spin but the band offers surprises here and there… different drumming styles, solos and different atmospheres that take the listener to different journeys. So give the record a chance and find out yourself. Some of you may be judgemental when listening but I am sure you will get to like it. Especially recommended to those who like their BM a bit different, experimental and especially recommended to those who are into the German BM scene.
