Geoffrey Downes and Christopher both are names that have quite some music on their names already. Together they have had some releases as well and now they are up for album number three together. It is called “Skyscraper Souls” and is available now.
Both have different backgrounds, one more melodic/prog other more towards pop music. It coming together may be interesting and so far their symphonic pop has been successful. On this style of music, they did not really changed a lot. They kept with what they are up for.
Catchiness all over, from the beginning of the release you get this right away. Even though some of the tracks are much longer than the average pop song nowadays, title track “Skyscraper Souls” clocks over eighteen minutes, the music does not stop to entertain you. Musically the vocals are often most upfront but here and there the instrumental part steps out a bit more to catch some of the spotlight as well. A guitar solo can truly complete the experience of the song.
Yet the strength of these two together is mainly found in the composing. It works all so well together, a match made in heaven where the balance is strong and the whole comes out exactly as it should.
“Skyscraper Souls” is an album that listens easily. It is complete and brings you a good listening experience. Pop with a bit extra, a collaboration we can enjoy many albums more.
