Lavalu – Solitary High

Lavalu is a project by Marielle Woltring. She is born in Cleveland and plays a mix of classic piano and pop music. She now releases her album “Solitary High” which is the start of a trilogy.

Whether you find the music from Lavalu sad or rather soothing is probably up to your mood of the day, but we can guarantee you that she has the capabilities to do both. Right from the start she plays your emotions at equal level as she plays her piano. She does not remain on the most obvious paths, but dares to stray and goes into a more remarkable path. It draws her. It is what you can expect.

Listen to the song called “Milk”. It is strange in its way, but it makes the whole playful. And also there is some catchiness to be found. Maybe unexpected, but that “Bare” is one that stuck in mind longer than expected. Funny thing is that musically and also in the artwork of this release, this lady reminds me to both Patti Smith and Björk. Perhaps where she draws inspiration from.

Altogether, this “Solitary High” is a lovely release. It is the first out of three, so it makes you curious to hear what will come after that. IS the story going to continue or will it come with a plot twist? Time will tell.
