Rock and roll singer song writer Åge Sten Nilsen has a wide variety in his music taste and also in what he plays. On this release he shows us his own work. “Smooth Seas (Don’t Make Good Sailors)” is out now.

So the album is a bit remarkable, not the standard I would have expected here. That’s nice some refreshing surprise. Getting into the album fast you can enjoy a bit of madness in it. It’s not as bombastic as you may hope for, yearning for though. Here and there you hoped it to be a bit more Bigelf side of it, but Mr. Nilsen keeps it a bit tighter and clean. Works, but feels a bit too safe perhaps. You hope for the whole to be a bit more exciting.
But to be said, the man has a good idea of what he wants to present, he seems very solid with it and here and there doing it a bit different than expected makes it an album that listens easily. Whether he brings a bit more country in it or perhaps more rock, some Everly Brothers or some that is 100% himself, the variation is there in this release and so it is an album you keep playing and hearing something new.

A nice surprise at the last months of the year. It’s good company for dark and drooly days of autumn and the release gives us good quality combined with a face of its own. The combination is bringing enough uniqueness to have it standing out above the many albums that get out these days. Recommended!
