[schema type=”review” name=”Degenerate – Demo 2016″ author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-10-31″ ]Degenerate is a Duo from Amsterdam. The make Death/Thrash with a melodic edge and they release a debut demo simply titled “Demo 2016”.
To get an idea what they guys are doing you could easily refer to a band like Children of Bodom, my first thought but also a reference of the guys themselves. Those who are a bit deeper into the Finnish music scene will find a reference to the early Fear of Domination suitable just as well, just that aggression with the melodics (even the intro of the first song gives that away), brought with a certain catchiness .
For a demo, the band shows a strong sound, brought in a way that we don’t see that often done in Netherlands. To have all the aspects come together smoothly and have the aggression and the melodics in good balance. To look what the guys could improve on is perhaps the sound self. It could become a bit more massive, it leaves to question if this stand as strong live as on the demo, maybe a bit also on the variation. We now received four songs, but to hear a full album is something different.
Good, altogether the guys give us a demo that certainly sparks our interest. Hopefully we get see more from these guys soon, as they take some time to develop and grow to a first full length.
