It’s a Norwegian evening in Eindhoven, NL. In the middle of the week them metalheads took time to visit Dynamo to see some Metal.

Dreamarcher is the opener tonight. The band has recently released an album which is self-titled. One their show is based on and although most people came around this night to see Kampfar which is a bit different from this, the band got the undivided attention of many which were around. Their music has some vocals, demonic in a way, but the strength is coming from the chanting melodies, the song’s instrumental part that drags you into the mood mostly. The show evolves nicely, but towards the end it remains a bit uneventful, for when the shows would grow longer perhaps the guys could strengthen the experience a bit by working on the visual side as well.

Black Metal formation Vreid is one we often see in combination with Kampfar so the audience is accustomed with their music as well as with Kampfar’s. What is remarkable about these guys that start it relatively calm, just set the mood and then grow upon it. Not only in powerful sounds, the melodic side is increasing as much as the vehemence, a bit more of all and the longer you listen to these guys, the more the details come forward and the more one enjoys. Here these riffs evolving from a straightforward support to a song, towards the key element in the foreground, where they get a chance to shine and let it go back towards the rest when the time is there. The playfulness between the band and the way they give each other space to highlight a certain part is a joy to observe. A pleasant show, as we may expect from them.

Kampfar is the headliner of the night and the audience seems quite into it. The place is full, it’s hot due to all the energetic people there, frontrows are taken and the band , in essence, does not have to do a lot to get them on their hands. But not doing a lot does not seem to be Kampfar-style, the guys are all in for it giving the audience some of their favorites. “Troll, Død Og Trolldom” for example, one that gets people excited. ‘Oh joy, they are playing some songs they don’t play that often also’ some random visitor shouts in my ear and I smile, because the even though the crowd pleasers are the main attraction tonight, one hardly seems bothered to stand still for the lesser known songs.
After “Hymne” the guys leave the stage for a bit, it’s hot and a small break seems good for them as they return and play a bunch of song more. “Our Hounds, Our Legion” is ending the set tonight and leaves the audience satisfied.
Kampfar and Vreid proved to be a good combination once again. With an act as Dreamarcher along they form a good combo. Three bands that entertain you well.
