Those Black Marks are a newly established four-piece rock band based in Dublin, Ireland. Each of the members had gained a wealth of experience playing in various bands in their local scene. In March 2015 Sean Watmore (vocals), Liam Redmond (Guitar), Eamon Mc Evoy (Bass) and Daymo Moran (Drums) first played together, establishing a musical chemistry that speaks for itself. Following a period of intensive gigging Those Black Marks entered the studio with material written by chief collaborators Watmore and Redmond. The guys are making pop/rock and have their album “Darwinian” releasing as we speak.

A couple of catchy tunes is what the guys have waiting for you. They have a quite modern sound but a careful listener will find the references to older music, 90’s rock and such. Here and there the band has a dreamy side and if you distance yourself from the words it has a melancholy in there that can take you to total opposite moods. A diverse effect that bands like Manic Street Preacher have mastered in the past. Bring back these words in and you can let yourself be taken by the hand a bit more, to lead you where they intended you to be.

A pity it is though, that the last two songs seem to take back the intensity that you could find earlier in the release, perhaps it would have been smarter to mix them in the tracklist, so you could step it back for a while and find back the energy in another song after that. But choices are choices and altogether the band have created a fine release. It’s easy to listen to, yet has some depth there also. Chart material with a little extra.
