Sunstorm – Edge Of Tomorrow

Melodic rock has always been my favorite to rock out to because it’s classic and timeless. It does not matter to me if a song still sounds like the 80s in 2016, because music is not about trends in my humble opinion and it’s a matter of being acquainted, that music gets kind of stuck with you since childhood and through your years of adulthood. In addition, when the lyrics are empowering and encouraging, it’s even harder to let go of your favorites.

Joe Lynn Turner of Deep Purple and Rainbow has been that kind of a singer for many over the years. He has a classic, and unimitable voice that is so powerful and discernable. The quality of his vocals has not changed a bit. I saw Turner live on stage in Ankara and he sounds the same live just as his studio vocals. Hails to him for keeping the AOR and classic hard rock fire alive!

Sunstorm is a project that was brought to JLT by the Frontier Records president in 2006. The first Sunstorm self-titled album featured the unreleased songs written by Turner in the 80s. It got really good reviews from the fans and rock magazines. The 4th album “Edge of Tomorrow” has very upbeat songs which make you feel like a warrior going through the motions in the modern world. They all carry the AOR (Album Oriented Rock) quality as a genre. The album title song depicts the world on its edge, in other words, the apocalypse. Turner says the song is a symbolic narration of the chaotic times of today’s politics and the damage it causes all over the world. The rest of the album is no different in theme and soundwise. The solos and keyboards are everything to the AOR genre and this album is one of the very best representations of it.

“Edge of Tomorrow” will definitely please the classic hard rock fans, both who wants to reminisce the old times and regular listeners of melodic rock.
