US Metal formation DSG is fully named David Shankle Group. He once played at Manowar and now more focussed on his solo career. He know releases his album “Still a Warrior” his third full length album under this name.

Manowar, ah then you have quite a clue what to expect. And yes, that is not really any different than that. Power Metal, shredding guitars and some tempo. On this release you can simoky expect that and not really a whole lot of different. Here and there some recognizable parts, inspiration from what has been brought before make that the album is not really coming out as original. Though, it does have some good selling points. The guitars by David are surely leading. When he gets into a solo he simply gets the most out of the band. Sounds sad, but he can’t really go without the rest either. For if it wasn’t the vocals to come in it could easily become a long and whining piece of guitar show off but it hasn’t been that for they have a good understanding of when to move on.

“Still A Warrior” is an album that has some pro’s and cons to weigh out to eachother. Does it balance? Well we are afraid it does not quite do that. It all could have been more refined and exciting. Sorry, not much of a thriller.
